Behind the Character

Basileia is the online persona of the Basileia System, a Chinese-American DID system with a passion for character illustration!We haven't seen many V-tubers that have made their DID a part of their character's lore yet, so we created Basileia—both for the storytelling potential and so all of us can represent ourselves individually on stream when we wish to do so.Thank you for supporting us on this journey!

Lore

When "I" was a child, "I" knew there were many sides of myself but was unable to allow them their own space to grow and interact with the world. "I" made it until adulthood unable to be whole because "I" could not accept that we were fragmented."I" went through many journeys attempting to find "myself," continuing to ignore the different parts of "myself" even as "I" trekked across forests and mountains and encountered magical creatures much stranger than those traveling alongside "me."On the last of those journeys "I" encountered the goddess, Hecate. She saw "my" struggle and gave "me" a blessing of clarity. Suddenly, it was as if those parts, those fragments, stopped swirling around each other like shattered glass in storm and instead settled amongst one another like stained glass. Suddenly, we were able to see one another.In order to enable us all to explore the world more authentically, she blessed us with a new form. It was made grayscale so that we have a neutral appearance, but changes its eye color depending on which of us is out in the world. It was given traits of a Caracal to reflect the isolation our condition can cause and traits of a human to serve as a reminder that the outside world still has a place for us.Now we are on a much less grand journey, but still a journey nonetheless: we are seeking to find ourselves in a modern world just as Basileia, not as a sole adventurer in a world of magic and danger.

Appearance

We have a simple, neutral dress that is contrasted by the elaborate piece of jewelry we wear on our waist.Each gemstone on the piece represents one of the individuals we may switch into.We have long, straight hair with a gradient from black to white.Later illustrations of us will involve color references.

ABOUT DID

What is Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)?

According to the DSM-V:
"Dissociative identity disorder is characterized by a) the presence of two or more distinct personality states or an experience of possession and b) recurrent episodes of amnesia."DID was also formerly known as "Multiple Personality Disorder."Now "personalities" are instead referred to as "alters" (short for "alternate states of identity") to better represent what those parts are.

What does "fronting" mean?

"Fronting" or "being in front" in this context refers to what alter(s) is/are conscious and actively using the body to interact with the outside world.Sometimes multiple alters will be co-conscious, or present at once in a distinct mannerOther times, systems will be blendy, which is when the system is too dissociated to fully switch into a particular alter.They can also experience rapid switching, which is when the brain suddenly and frequently switches between alters rather than being co-conscious (though co-consciousness and blendiness can get thrown into the mix). We sometimes describe it as a playlist randomly skipping songs.

What is a System?

"System" is the term used to refer to a group of identities that operate together in one body.We refer to our group collectively as the "Basileia System" or just "Basileia" ("Basil" for short).

What is a host? Who is the host of the Basileia System?

The host of the system is the alter who fronts the most often.Our host is Aren (they/them).

Sometimes we will indicate who is speaking using emojis/colors.Most of the time you will see:

Why mention this online?

We have fun sharing our experiences and believe it is interesting to talk about. Additionally, incorporating our DID into a single account is much easier than managing multiple accounts for different alters (especially since we are looking to expand our consumer base for commissions).
